Skateboarding meets ancient history — the story of how Egypt's skaters turned the land of the pyramids into their own playground.

Rising with the sun at 6 AM, battling exhaustion, I found myself embroiled in a misadventure destined to become a chapter in Sahara Magazine's chronicles. The mission? An exclusive photoshoot at the Giza plateau, with yours truly as the skateboarder model against the majestic backdrop of the Pyramids — the inaugural cover for Sahara Magazine.

As Sahara's co-founder Nabawy and videographer Seif Hesham joined the escapade, our journey began in Sheikh Zayed. Tempted to ditch the session and park it to play some Fifa, we packed into my car with camera gear, three guys, and a skateboard. The objective: seize that perfect shot and immortalize this moment as the cover of Sahara Magazine.

Arriving at the plateau, we navigated through bureaucracy, tickets, and Egyptian camera skepticism. The authorities, enchanted by our gear, mandated a second ticket for the cameras, and bizarrely, insisted Nabawy and Seif enter on foot with the gear for the metal detector.

Inside, we scoured the pyramids for the ideal setup — them in the background, me in the foreground. A perfect spot secured, we faced an unforeseen adversary: Egyptian police officers. In their eyes, the skateboard posed a threat to the plateau's sanctity. Despite our attempts to negotiate, the skateboard was banished until further notice.

Dejected but undeterred, we regrouped. Turning back to Sheikh Zayed, we redirected our mission to the local skatepark's pyramid. As rain threatened and winds howled, I took on the pyramid. Despite an unexpected bail and a tumble on my left wrist, we emerged with a triumph — a dope photo and some killer footage.

Returning to my apartment, we mused over the day's rollercoaster. While bureaucracy stifled our initial plan, the resilient spirit of skaters prevailed. We devoured a long-awaited meal, battled it out on Fifa, and reveled in the highs and lows of a day etched in Sahara's skateboarding history. The Great Pyramid may have eluded us, but the Fourth Pyramid witnessed our indomitable spirit and commitment to turning obstacles into opportunities.

In the realm of skateboarders, setbacks are just setups for bigger comebacks, and this is just the beginning of Sahara's journey to showcase the underground scene in all its rebellious glory. Stay tuned for more skateboarding adventures that break through the chains of conformity. The Fourth Pyramid might have stood tall, but the skaters of Sahara stand taller, ready for the next challenge that rolls their way, and of course, more post-skate Fifa sessions.
